VULTURES (REMIXES) – Evanturetime’s popular track with Linying receives the eclectic remix treatment

Nearly eight months after its first release, Singapore electronic artist Evanturetime’s popular track Vultures is set for its own slate of exciting remixes by four other up-and-coming local electronic producers.

Since dropping his first two singles, Evanturetime’s tasteful minimalist-electronica has been gaining an ever-increasing audience. Charting in several countries abroad and in particular, hitting #1 on the Spotify Singapore’s Viral 50, #1 on iTunes’ Alternative Music and #7 on Spotify Japan’s Viral 50 on the first two singles, has brought proof thus far of the Singapore producer’s technicality and ear for a good tune.

As Evan prepares for his third and final single before his EP (slated for release later this year), four electronic producers have come together to remix his popular first single, ‘Vultures’. The result – the Vultures Remix EP– is a reminder of the power of new perspectives, and of the marker laid down by the growing scene of talented Singapore producer-musicians.

“Having both Charlie and Linying on a tune is like a dream come true. Given the track’s minimal approach I thought there might be ample chances for the song to be reimagined in the hands of equally capable musicians.”

The collaborators were chosen for their different sonic trademarks. From THIEVVES’ soaring dynamic range to ØATHS’ powerful gated synthesizers; from shaykhandbake’s sampled chants and laidback grooves, to Brannlum’s party-anthem vibes, the EP promises something for everyone along the genre’s wide spectrum.

Fresh from the buzz laid down by their previous two EPs, Singapore alternative hip-hop duo CampFire drops Tidal (Surf Surfin’) today, the first single from their upcoming album, with both song and music video digitally distributed via the cross-label collaboration of Umami Records and SOLD Records.

To mark the release of official music video for Tidal (Surf Surfin’), a tasty fan nugget in the form of two free bonus singles – titled ‘Nicco Homaili’ and ‘JoshTZM’ – will be available as free downloads for those who watch the MV. The experimental directions of both tracks are based off samples that each artist in CampFire riffed off from – keener listeners may spot samples from Kendrick Lamar’s “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe’ and Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know.”

The expansiveness of this project is no intended gimmick – Tidal (Surf Surfin’) is a single that’s more than just a teaser of what’s to come. It’s an artistic evocation; a sense of molting, a peeling away of surface emotive layers. The song edges the theme of reaching deeper states of being that the upcoming full album promises to dive into.

“Tidal (Surf Surfin’)” is about an emotive state: going into cruise control, fighting the highs and lows, placing pressure where it should rightfully be, and making ripples emanate from the centre of our lives in the form of tunes, in hopes of turning those ripples into tidal waves.” – CampFire

As noted by producer Nicco Homaili, this theme of shedding and tussling also permeated the song’s creative process:

“The outcome of Tidal’s song structure came about spontaneously as I was producing it. We wanted the story to be sonically and lyrically driven with the transition between two different grooves that sets the tone for the song parts, combining the styles for Josh’s vocal and mine.”

Hotly-anticipated in local hip-hop circles, expect ‘Feel Trip,’ CampFire’s first ever full-length album, to be released by end 2017.
